Devastro CD cover art

Tom, September 26 2007
It looks like Devastro is going to be sold at retail stores in some countries. I didn't want anyone else create the CD cover art for my game so I took the responsibility myself. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted it to look like, made some sketches and fired up Photoshop.

Took quite a while to get right. Several days and a few hundred layers later I was finally satisfied with it. Then I made a mockup physical CD to see what it would look like in real life. Here are some shots of it:

Front cover. After this shot was taken I made the title larger and moved it to the left a bit. I'm still not 100% sure if the rays coming out of the aliens' guns should be red or blue.

Back, with some teaser text and system requirements. The barcode is just a dummy. See what it's for if you're a super-geek with a barcode reader.

Inside with CD. The image wasn't properly aligned with the centre of the CD. Probably my printer's fault.

Title, plain and simple.

Great work! Looks v nice + in the right style.
You really have to do that stuff yourself?!

My only suggestions (feel free to ignore):
the blue bg on the reverse side is a little plain, could add something to break it up?
Swap the '8' symbols on the back with your generic UFO shape?
Maybe too much teaser text on the back? Hmm, checking other games, they do tend to put lots there, don't they...
Thanks! Yeah, UFO shapes instead of the 8s would be much more appropriate... I assumed the distributor would redo the back to their needs & liking anyway, so I didn't pay so much attention to it.
that looks really cool, I love the use of the ufo texture on the disc.. very smart =)
